Sundays at 4: Hot Skillet Club
July 23 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pmFree
Hot Skillet Club offers hot gypsy jazz with a western swing flavor, bringing to the stage three voices, guitar, bass and fiddle. Liza Constable’s strong alto and rhythmic ease brings the band right into its vintage jazz roots. Tex-Mex, Cajun, New England fiddle tunes, delta blues, she has the unusual talent to play many genres and leave you a believer. Val Blachly is a smooth one, she plays a stick bass and finds those high harmonies. Raised in a family of classical singers, Val started off in the world of opera, which led seamlessly to bluegrass, and then vintage jazz. Ellen Carlson comes from a family of musicians, learned traditional fiddle tunes, and then explored different styles, including hot jazz, while at the summer camp “Django in June” and taking workshops with Jason Anick and Tim Kliphuis.
